A student from an Islamiyya school died and ten others were reportedly injured in an explosion that occurred in Kidandan village in the Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In a statement made on Saturday in Kaduna, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, stated that the security authorities were conducting a thorough investigation into the explosion.
Aruwan said, “According to preliminary reports from the traditional institution and security agencies, one of the pupils learning under a local cleric picked up an object from the bush, which later exploded amidst his fellow pupils.”
According to him, at the time of this update, ten injured students were undergoing treatment at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika-Zaria, while one student, Zaidu Usman, has been confirmed dead.
Aruwan said, “Gov. Uba Sani of the state has received the report with shock and sadness, he has sent commiserations to the victims and their families, praying for the repose of the soul of the deceased and a quick recovery for the wounded.
”According to him, the governor has also urged community leaders and parents to keep a closer eye on their children’s and wards’ activities because of their vulnerability to different risks.
Aruwan added that the governor has given the ministry instructions to work together with security services in order to expeditiously look into the explosion’s cause.
He claims that this is being done to protect the citizens, call for emergency assistance, and make sure the casualties receive timely medical attention.
Aruwan added that the state government would appropriately notify the public of any updates.
