10 Students Punished by Arthur Jarvis University for Bullying, Truancy

For engaging in acts of fighting, bullying their peers, and truancy, ten students of Arthur Jarvis University in Cross River State have received disciplinary actions.

Five students who played a direct role in bullying and fighting were dismissed from the institution.

The remaining students, who were indirectly involved in the incidents, were given suspensions.

Among them, three students were suspended for one month, while two others received a two-week suspension.

All the affected students have now left the university premises.

These details were disclosed in a statement released by the acting Registrar of the school, Lady Mary Dan-Abia.

According to the Registrar, the expulsion was intended not only as a punishment but also as a strong warning to others that the university does not tolerate acts of truancy or bullying.

Reports indicate that the students involved appeared before the school’s disciplinary panel on Monday, January 20, 2025, in response to two separate incidents of fighting and group bullying, which took place on December 12, 2024, and January 18, 2025.

Dan-Abia explained that this decision was reached just a few days after the Chancellor had addressed the student body, advising them to avoid misconduct and immoral behavior.

She noted that the Chancellor had made it clear that any student caught using, possessing, selling, or smuggling drugs within the university would be expelled immediately.

In her words, “The verdict serves as a deterrent to other students and a powerful reminder that respect for others and adherence to the rules of the university are non-negotiable.”

She further emphasized that for those expelled, those suspended, and all other students, “no student is above the school rules.”
