1,118 bag first class as OOU graduates 11,896 students

Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, the vice-chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, announced on Wednesday that 11,896 students will graduate from the university during its 32nd and 33rd convocations, which is set for next week. Of those, 1,118 will receive First Class degrees, and 112 will receive various doctorate degrees.

The convocations cover two academic sessions of 2021/2022 as well as 2022/2023.Agboola made this announcement on Wednesday at a press conference held in the university’s Senate building conference room.

The vice-chancellor issued a warning against the “japa syndrome,” claiming that it could cause the rich cultural heritage and advancements of the nation to become disarticulated.

“Rather than to flee the country in the name of japa, we had better see how we can all develop this nation and make it great because no foreigners is coming to do this for us,” he said.

The vice-chancellor said the convocation lecture with the title “Mass Exodus of Human Capital in Nigeria: An Anotomical Analysis of the Causes and Effects” would be delivered by the legal luminary, Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN.

The Akarigbo of Remoland and Chairman of Ogun State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Adewale Babatunde Ajayi, as well as the immediate past Chairman, Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor of the University, Mrs Mosunmola Belo-Olusoga, will be honoured with the Honourary Doctorate Degree in Science for their invaluable contributions to improving on the socio-economic development of the country.

Giving breakdown of the convocation list, Agboola said “I am pleased to inform you that a total number of 6131 and 5653 will convoke for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic session respectively.

“The breakdown shows that in the 2021/2022 academic session, there are 76 graduands that earned First Class, 1756 in Second Class Upper Division, 3203 in Second Class Lower Division, 884 had Third Class while 95 had a Pass Grade.

“And for the 2022/2023 academic session, 98 graduates earned First Class, 1536 made Second Class Upper Division, 2982 are in Second Class Lower, 651 had Third Class while 51 had Pass grade.”
