On Saturday, a total of 15,139 students were awarded the National Certificate in Education (NCE) during the 15th combined convocation ceremony at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Yola.
This event coincided with the college’s 50th anniversary celebration and the commencement of the Nigerian College of Education Games (NICEGA), which began on Friday, November 1.
As part of the ceremonies, the college also conferred honorary awards on 11 individuals, including Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, an alumna who earned her NCE from FCE Yola in 1987, just 13 years after its establishment as the Federal Advanced Teachers College in 1974.
In his address, the Provost, Mohammed Degereji, expressed appreciation to federal and state governments, TETFUND, staff, and students for their contributions to the college’s growth and achievements.
He appealed to the federal government to consider elevating the institution to a university of education, given its longstanding service to teacher education.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed the federal government’s dedication to advancing education through projects like the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
Represented by Dr. Yusuf Saeed, Director of Response, Coordination, and Service Improvement at the Ministry of Education, the minister assured that he would advocate for the college’s proposed upgrade.
