2 Bauchi Teachers Ordered to Repay ₦597,000 for Missing School Assets

The head of Government Day Secondary School, Kirfi, along with another teacher, has been found guilty of selling government-owned school assets valued at ₦597,000 without authorisation from the Bauchi State Government.

The Bauchi State Teachers’ Service Commission announced that, following a detailed probe into the allegations against Principal Musa Ahmed Ningi and Senior Master Adamu Shehu, both educators were found liable for serious misconduct and were accordingly dismissed from their positions.

Garba Muhammad Bashe, who serves as the acting permanent secretary of the commission, explained that a panel set up by the commission determined that the two individuals were guilty of the accusations made against them.

He stated that both teachers would repay the total amount of ₦597,000, which represents the worth of the school items that were vandalised and sold.

Additionally, the panel directed that the demoted and removed principal must return a further ₦72,000, which is owed to the school’s casual workers as unpaid allowances.

“The Commission has therefore approved the demotion of the two officers by one grade, and they will be posted to other schools to teach.”

The Commission revealed that both Ningi and Shehu were found to have colluded in the unauthorised sale of school property without seeking approval from the Ministry of Education.

The sold items reportedly included 32 student beds, nine large aluminium cooking pots, and an unspecified quantity of roofing sheets made from zinc.

The Commission further pledged to work closely with law enforcement to retrieve the vandalised school materials.
