300-level IMSU student arrested for the murder of final-year FUTO student

Following a heated argument with members of the university’s Man O’ War Unit, Francis Marvellous, 21, a 300-level student at Imo State University (IMSU), is accused of fatally stabbing Chinagorom Marvellous Kingsley, 22, a final-year student at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO). The incident is being investigated by the Imo State Police Command.

On March 29, 2024, at about 2200 hours, the incident took place.

The suspect, Francis Marvellous, was taken into custody by police officers on convoy patrol after they reacted to a distress call from the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of FUTO, according to command spokesman Henry Okoye, who confirmed the event.

He said that the victim’s body was recovered and taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he was confirmed dead and deposited at the mortuary.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, admitting that he had a heated argument with the Man O’ War Unit members and brought out a knife he concealed in his trousers, stabbing the victim to death.

“He mentioned three others who were with him during the fight, including his brother Francis Promise, Prince, and a man popularly known as Soji.

“According to him, the Imo State Police Command is working to arrest the other suspects involved in the case, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take charge of the case.

After the investigation is over, he said, the suspects will be charged in court.

He also mentioned that the Commissioner of Police has issued a warning regarding the spread of misleading information on social media.

He noted that the victim was not stabbed to death by Hausa/Fulani/Northerner, but by a fellow student.

The command called on the general public, especially the staff and students of FUTO, to go about their lawful business and cautioned against taking the law into their own hands

Additionally, he gave the public assurance that sufficient security measures had been put in place to stop similar incidents in the future and counselled FUTO students to abstain from breaking the law while investigations are still underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
