2025 UTME: 77% of candidates score below 200, under 1% above 300

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that among the 1,955,069 candidates who participated in the recent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), more than 1.5 million, which represents 77 per cent, scored under 200.
According to the statistical breakdown of the 2025 UTME results released by JAMB on Tuesday, only 420,415 candidates attained scores higher than 200.
The figures further revealed that 75 per cent of the candidates earned scores below 200, while fewer than one per cent managed to exceed 300 marks.
In the release that came with the data, the board stated that 40,247 candidates who were considered underage were allowed to showcase their exceptional academic capabilities. Nevertheless, just 467 of those underage candidates, making up 1.16 per cent, reached the score level considered exceptional for the UTME, and their outcomes for the next three stages remain pending.
Out of the total number of registered candidates, 97 were caught in examination-related misconduct, while 2,157 others are currently being investigated for possible involvement in malpractice.
“Additionally, 71,701 candidates were absent. Those facing biometric challenges are also under investigation, and those who are cleared will be rescheduled for examination at designated centres.”
JAMB also stated that a small number of results, including those from visually impaired candidates and participants under the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), are still in the process of being finalised, and that a press briefing will soon be held to officially disclose individual results to candidates.
