270,000 Girl-Child Enjoy UNICEF/SUBEB Mobilization to Schools in Katsina
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Katsina State has mobilized the enrolment of 270,000 girls into primary schools in the state.
Education Officer-in-charge of UNICEF, Kano Field Office, Michael Banda disclosed this during a 5-day Girls Education Project (GEP) workshop organised in Katsina on Wednesday.
According to him, the objective of the programme is to mobilise and promote access to quality learning for all Girl-Child in the focal states. He mentioned that the focal areas comprise of Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Zamfara, Niger and Bauchi states, with each state expected to mobilise one million girls to school.
Mr Banda who said that the GEP is a project managed by UNICEF and funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), added that the project is an eight-year programme that started in 2012 and will end in 2020 in the mentioned states.
Acting Director, Planning and Statistics (PRS), SUBEB, Katsina state, Hajiya Zainab Kaita stated that the Board have been working hard to meet the collaboration target for the enrolment of the girl-child into schools.
