Professor Alewo Johnson-Akubo, Vice Chancellor of Salem University Lokoja, announced that 30 of the university’s graduates had been called to the Nigerian Bar.
The VC, who made the announcement in Lokoja, characterised the outcome as “cheering” and “encouraging news” for the university.
According to Johnson-Akubo, the new lawyers are among the first to graduate from the university’s College of Law.
The VC, while applauding the “Change Agents,” stated, “It’s an eloquent testimony of the relentless pursuit of the vision of ‘Raising Global Leaders’ by the visioner and founder, Archbishop (Dr) Sam Amaga.”
He did, however, warn the new lawyers and solicitors from participating in harsh practices that could harm theirs and the institution’s reputation.
Johnson-Akubo challenged them to be good advocates for the university by demonstrating their worth as reputable lawyers and solicitors.
He stated that passing through Nigerian Law School after graduation and being called to the bar was an accomplishment worth celebrating.
“We, as an institution and their Alma Mata, are so happy with the progress they are making in their legal career.
“As it stands today, they are full-fledged lawyers and solicitors, who can be advocating for the millions of people and organizations needing their services in and outside the country.
“It’s our hope that they will do their best to serve the nation well as good ambassadors of Salem University, ” he said.
According to him, there was the need for caution against greed and money temptation so as not to put themselves in problems.
The VC added: “I believe they are men and women of proven character and learning. They are fit and proper persons called and admitted into the Nigerian Bar.”
