400-level Abia University student dies during cult clash

The Abia State Government revealed on Monday that an Abia State University student died following a cult clash over the weekend.

Following the week’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by the state governor, Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, briefed reporters on Monday, saying, “It has come to the notice of the state government about skirmishes in Abia State University, Uturu, between student groups in which a student lost his life.

“Some remedial actions have been taken to return normalcy (in the institution). The state government has dispatched some security agencies to Abia State University Uturu.”

He urged students to desist from violence and focus on their studies.

According to reports, tensions at the institution have risen following a recent outbreak of violence between two opposing cult groups, which caused the death of a 400-level student.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim, a 400-level History and International Relations student, was attacked by members of a rival group on campus, resulting in his death.

However, this incident has heightened tensions on campus following the cult clash.

All attempts to contact school officials were unsuccessful due to a poor network.

However, Kenechukwu Onwumelie, the state Commissioner of Police, stated that the police are aware of the situation and “is investigating the incident.”
