49 Final-Year MAPOLY Students at Risk of Expulsion Over Alleged Fake Results

A total of 49 final-year Higher National Diploma (HND) students at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) are facing possible expulsion after a verification process revealed that they allegedly submitted counterfeit National Diploma (ND) results.

The polytechnic released a result verification update, indicating that these students had presented fake ND certificates when applying for admission into the institution’s HND programs.

The verification list, which was issued in two parts, revealed that the affected students were from various departments, including Mass Communication, Pharmaceutical Technology, Marketing, Science Laboratory Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Accountancy, among others.

It was reported that some of the fraudulent results were sourced from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, and Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa, located in Oyo State.

Earlier in the week, the polytechnic announced the indefinite closure of the institution due to a planned protest by students.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, ‘yemi Ajibola, confirmed that the verification was a standard procedure to validate documents submitted by enrolled students.

He explained, “We have our internal mechanisms for verifying results submitted by every student of the polytechnic.” Ajibola added that while some results had not yet been verified due to delays from the institutions where they originated, others were discovered to be fake.

He further clarified, “Some of the results had yet to be verified because the schools they came from had yet to confirm their results, while some of the results were found to be fake.”

Ajibola acknowledged the delay in the verification process due to administrative challenges but assured that the issues would be addressed promptly.

“We had a backlog of results to verify because of some administrative issue which necessitated the delay, and we are working on getting them resolved as soon as possible,” he noted.

The PR officer also stated that students with fake results would not face immediate expulsion, but would be given the chance to defend their claims.

“They will not be expelled immediately. The institution will write each of the affected students to come and defend the result they presented, and in a circumstance where we detect an error in the verification process, we will rectify it.”

Ajibola concluded, “However, anyone who could not substantiate his/her results will be expelled.”
