A total of 50 indigent secondary school students in Ondo State have received scholarships from the DOW Education and Mentoring Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
Cheques for the cost of tuition, uniforms, sandals, school bags, textbooks, and note books were given to the indigent students who were chosen from a variety of secondary schools throughout the state.
Oluwarotimi Williams-Daudu, the initiative’s founder, stated at the cheque presentation that a committee worked with the school administration to select the recipients from among four local councils in the Akoko axis in the state.
Williams-Daudu, who urged notable Nigerians to support the project, stated that his goal was to spread the scholarship throughout the country and emphasised that the idea originated from his upbringing and experiences.
He stated that the pupils have to meet the committee’s approved requirements of being exceptionally intelligent and extremely underprivileged in order to be eligible for the grant.
Dr. Funmilola Williams-Daudu, the founder’s wife, gave the beneficiaries advice to set lofty goals and put in a lot of effort to realise them.
She said: “I want to tell you that there was a time I was like you. Your future is very bright, especially now that you’re DOW ambassadors.
“Think of your academics; be diligent, honest and hardworking. People must see that you have been transformed. Among you shall be governors, doctors and engineers.”
Williams-Daudu was applauded for taking the initiative by Dele Akinnagbe, Permanent Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Ondo State, who emphasised that it will have a significant impact on the students’ life.
