50th anniversary: UniCal chooses Akpabio as lead ambassador
CALABAR (Sundiata Scholar) – Nigeria’s Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, will serve as the lead ambassador for the 50th anniversary celebration of the University of Calabar (UniCal), the university has said.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, disclosed this in Calabar while presenting the ‘UniCal at 50’ anniversary flag to the Pro-Chancellor, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (Rtd)
Obi expressed joy that the university’s 50th anniversary scheduled to hold in March 2025, would be celebrated under her watch.
“On behalf of the founding fathers and alumni of the institution, I say that I am honoured to be the one celebrating the golden jubilee of this great institution.
“Many vice chancellor’s and pro-chancellors have come and gone, but God found us worthy of celebrating this great achievement,” she said.
In his speech, Ekpoudom described UniCal as a great institution that had produced great personalities in the society.
He listed the senate president as one of the prominent Nigerians that the university had produced.
The pro-chancellor said that Akpabio proved his mettle as an administrator and uncommon achiever when he served as the governor of Akwa Ibom.
Prof. Eyong Eyong, the Planning Committee Chairman, said that the university had achieved a lot that required being celebrated after 50 years.
He said that the anniversary would provide a platform for the university to honour its partners and stakeholders all over the world.
