71 Bag First-Class as KWASU Graduates 6,374 Students

Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, is set to graduate 6,374 students for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Shaykh Luqman-Jimoh, revealed this during a press briefing marking the commencement of the 12th Convocation ceremonies of KWASU.

Among the graduating students, 71 achieved first-class honours, while 1,828 attained second-class upper division. Additionally, the session produced 517 postgraduate students.

The convocation ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, 14th December 2024, at the state-of-the-art performing arts building.

Professor Jimoh announced that Emeritus Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, the President-elect of the Nigerian Academy of Science, would deliver the 12th Convocation lecture, titled “The Optimum Utilisation of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for Sustainable Growth and Development of the Nation.”

Highlighting the university’s achievements during the session, the Vice-Chancellor noted the introduction and National Universities Commission (NUC) verification of 10 additional degree programmes. Furthermore, the number of faculties expanded from nine to eleven.

He also disclosed the upgrade of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital to meet the clinical needs of the MBBS programme.

Professor Jimoh identified some challenges facing the institution, including land encroachment, road infrastructure, and hostel accommodation.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his support in addressing these issues and for approving the implementation of the new minimum wage for the university staff.
