Abia Poly student, 5 others arrested over killing of 2 POS operators
The Inspector-General of the Police Rapid Response Team (IRT) attached to the Aba Area Command has arrested a 25-year-old student of Abia State Polytechnic identified as Uzoma Samuel, and five other suspects for the murder of two Point of Sale (POS) operators in Aba.
The suspects who are now in police custody confessed to having stormed the POS shop of Dr. Godwin Chimaobi Victor Igbokwe, a native of Isuikwuato LGA and a former staff of a popular commercial on a tricycle, shot him, collected his money, and fled the scene. Igbokwe was confirmed dead after being rushed to the hospital.
One Ezinne Grace Iroh, 23, from Ohafia LGA, was also shot dead a few days after Igbokwe’s attack, by the armed robbers on January 30, 2021, at Ukaegbu Road, in Ogbor Hill area of Aba.
Samuel who confessed to being the leader of the gang said that their aim was just to rob the victims, but that circumstances which he didn’t disclose led the operations to turn bloody.
Other members of the gang arrested are; Godwin Apeh (32), from Olamaboro LGA, Kogi State; Sunday Chibuike (22), from Ezinifite Mbaise LGA of Imo State; Godswill Kalu (23), from Ohafia LGA of Abia State; Chibuzor Gabriel (21) from Oshiri LGA of Ebonyi State and Abraham Thompson (27), an Indigene of Oron LGA in Akwa Ibom State.
Some of the items recovered from the suspects who are all said to be members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity include one Pump Action gun, one AK47 rifle, two locally made pistols, some yet-to-be used live ammunition.
