According to Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin, the institution has created a total of 36 patents that aim to improve society and the country.
The VC stated that the patents were created in collaboration with the federal government through the National Office of Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NATOP) in Abuja to support research and innovation while speaking at the university’s combined 37th and 38th convocation ceremonies on Saturday.
“With this, the University of Ilorin is one of the highest contributing institutions to patenting in Nigeria,” he said. Professor Egbewole noted that the patents were created in a variety of fields, including, among others, engineering, computer technology, medicine, and agriculture.
“The number of patents in the various disciplines is as follows: Medical 5, Agriculture 5, Engineering 16, Food 1, Information Technology 4, Petrochemical 3, Defence 1, Energy 1.

“These various patents are currently being positioned for commercialization, as our research aims to impact society and develop our community,” he said. He clarified the university’s dedication to promoting an environment that values excellence, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
The institution’s graduates, according to Professor Egbewole, are well-prepared to make significant contributions to nation-building.He gave the graduates advice on how to conduct yourself appropriately and how to never stop learning.
During the university’s 2021–2022 convocation ceremony, 10,757 graduates received first degrees, diplomas, postgraduate diplomas, and PhDs.
