53 Bowen University physiotherapy graduates from the 2023 class have been admitted into the profession by the Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board of Nigeria (MRTB) after they passed the board’s academic and professional exams with distinction.
MRTB Registrar Professor Rufai Ahmad Yusuf expressed his delight with the calibre of physiotherapists Bowen University is producing during the induction and awards event on Thursday.
He stated that since the college of health sciences at Bowen University began graduating students for the profession in 2020, the board had admitted 166 alumni of the school to the field of physiotherapy. He mentioned that Bowen University is turning out dependable and accountable professionals.
He encouraged the newly admitted students to continue studying on the job, but he also counselled the institution to persist in its efforts to support the growth of the physiotherapy field in Nigeria by expanding its facilities for teaching and research in order to generate more graduates for the nation.
The university’s vice chancellor, Professor Jonathan O. Babalola, announced that the physiotherapy programme had made progress since it began in the 2015–2016 academic year and had received full accreditation from the MRTB and the National Universities Commission (NUC), respectively. He mentioned that one of the first private universities in Nigeria to award bachelor’s degrees in physiotherapy to graduates is Bowen University.
He said “In furtherance to the university’s commitment to producing excellence and world-class physiotherapists, early this year, the National Universities Commission approved the commencement of the Doctor of Physiotherapy programme of which we have started admitting students for the 2023/24 academic session. Meanwhile, we have the NUC’s approval for Masters’ and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Physiotherapy respectfully.”

He thanked the parents and new entrants for their success story and urged them to take inspiration from Daniel’s life in the Bible, who outperformed his peers in a strange nation while serving God.

In a similar spirit, Bowen University’s guest speaker, Dr. Ayoola Aiyegbusi of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, reaffirmed the effectiveness and consistency of the institution’s educational programme as well as the dependable goods it brings to the field.
She urged the new entrants to accept and adjust to the best worldwide practises of physiotherapy, which she introduced as individualised and personalised patient treatment, in her presentation titled “Physiotherapy Practise in the 21st Century: The Physiotherapist and Personalised Healthcare.”
Noting that contemporary global practises are more scientific and more effective, she urged students to continue learning as their careers progress.
