Jigawa provides adult learners with solar-powered radio sets

DUTSE (Sundiata Scholar) – To increase the efficiency of its Literacy-by-Radio initiative, the Jigawa State Agency for Mass Education provided 400 adult learners solar-powered radio sets and additional learning materials.

The distribution was completed in the Gwiwa and Yankwashi Council areas, according to Dr. Abbas Abubakar, the agency’s executive secretary.

According to him, the organisation has four centres with 50 adult learners in each local government region.

According to the executive secretary, the plan was launched by the state government in 2021 with the intention of raising the state’s literacy rate.

He said it was also aimed at eradicating illiteracy in the state, particularly among adults in rural areas.

Abubakar said that the government had also paid Radio Jigawa to air the programme, and taken care of the facilitators’ allowance, training and monitoring of the facilitators.

“The programme was introduced to complement the efforts of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-formal Education (NMEC) in boosting mass literacy in the state.

“The MEC, recently, also donated 307 radio sets and other instructional materials as part of its efforts at boosting mass literacy in the state,” Abubakar said.

The executive secretary, who commended Gov. Umar Namadi for providing all the necessary support for the success of the pprogramme urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items.
