Zamfara College of Agriculture to be converted to a College of Agriculture and Technology

The state of Zamfara has authorised the transformation of the state College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Bakura, into a College of Agriculture and Technology, pending the completion of renovation plans.

Speaking before the House of Assembly standing committee on appropriations, State Commissioner for Agriculture Yau Haruna Gamji revealed this after defending the ministry’s 2024 fiscal year budget.

The information and public relations officer for the ministry, Bashir Abashiya, released a statement that included this information.

“The Commissioner said the upgrading of the college was to consolidate on the aspiration of the former late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello who established the institution to provide middle manpower for agricultural extension services in the region”, the statement added.

“The Commissioner disclosed that the upgrading will also qualify the College to benefit from the Tetfund and other donors interventions by improving infrastructure and capacity building for the staff of the institution.”

Yau Haruna also said that the State Government has approved the re-accreditation of existing courses and accreditation of technical disciplines the institution is planning to introduce as a prerequisite for the college transition from Monotechnic to Polytechnic as required by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
