45,000 apply for 2,000 teaching positions in Ogun

According to information released by the Ogun State government, about 45,000 people registered for the just-ended Ogun Teach Intern Programme, which was designed to hire 2,000 teachers.

According to Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, Commissioner for Science and Technology, the government will choose the best applicants based on the volume of applications and they’ll start working in April. He made this announcement during a meeting for stakeholders.

The commissioner also issued a warning, stating that any head teacher or principal found to be in violation of the policy will face consequences, and that education from primary to secondary school will continue to be free in the state.

He said “When this administration came on board, because of the sorry state of the educational system, the governor declared a state of emergency in the sector, which was followed with massive rehabilitation and construction of more classrooms to enhance conducive learning atmosphere.

“And for the first time after eight years, this government employed 1000 teachers who have just been given permanent employment. Another set of 2,000 teachers are about to be employed again under the OgunTeach Intern programme.

He said the governor was concerned about improving the security of the schools in the state, and has, therefore, approved the employment of more security personnel to secure the schools as well as the construction of perimeter fencing.
