Tragic vehicle accident in Jigawa kills 3 secondary school students, leaves 14 injured
Three students from Jigawa State’s Government Girls Secondary School, Kaugama, died in a horrific vehicle accident while travelling home for holiday.
DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer, verified the event in a statement.
He stated the incident occurred on the Jahun/Kiyawa route in Jigawa State and injured 14 additional students.
In a statement, Admas stated, “the incident took place on 15/03/24 around 1330hrs, when a vehicle, Sharon Galaxy with registration number TRN 498 ZY, driven by Rabi’u Abdullahi, aged 50, experienced a tyre burst near Kadirawa village while transporting the students from GGSS Kaugama to Gwaram local government their home town”
He said the driver lost control of the vehicle and somersaulted, as a result of which the occupants sustained various degrees of serious injuries.
“The victims were rushed to Jahun General Hospital for medical attention. eight students were treated and discharged, while the driver and six (6) others were referred to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, in Birnin Kudu for further treatment.
“However, three of the students were confirmed dead by a medical doctor, he said the corpses were released to their families for burial.”
The Police Spokesman said preliminary investigation revealed that overloading and worn-out tyres might have been the cause of the accident.
