The meeting between the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria University (SSANU) and the Federal Government concluded in an impasse, with SSANU requesting that strict action continue.
On Wednesday, National President (SSANU) Muhammed Ibrahim announced that the strike would continue tomorrow.
Recall that SSANU and NASU began on a seven-day nationwide strike on Monday to protest the Federal Government’s refusal to pay their four-month salaries withheld for embarking on strict action in 2021.
Ex-President Buhari refused to pay the associate because they refused to work, implying that they are not entitled to a wage, citing the concept of ‘No work; no pay’.
President Bola Tinubu’s government reversed the previous administration’s ‘no work; no pay’ policy and paid previously withheld salary of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members.
However, SSANU and NASU were dissatisfied with this decision, believing that their members should be paid for their efforts.
Despite repeated calls for better compensation and working conditions, the government has continued to neglect the needs of SSANU and NASU members. In response, the unions called a strike to pressure the government to act.
