According to a statement from the Ministry of Tertiary Education, the Kwara state government has begun distributing 2023-2024 bursary grants to at least 9,989 final-year students from Kwara state.
The recipients, whose true identities were established following a rigorous screening of the 27,314 total entries, were selected from the state’s 16 local government areas and other tertiary institutions across the country, according to the statement.
“We have started paying the bursary award of N10,000 to each of the successful applicants, which has been graciously approved by His Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,” the statement quoted the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Arinde, as saying.
“The payment began on Wednesday, March 27, and will continue until we finish the disbursement. We are paying directly to their accounts for transparency and accountability. There are a few of these successful applicants whose account details are not correct. We will contact them.”
The statement said 100,000 scholarship awards for the year 2022-2023 (academic session) for law students are also being disbursed directly to 107 successful applicants of Kwara state origin, as approved by the governor.
This gesture was motivated by the governor’s desire to make final-year Kwara indigenes in tertiary institutions throughout the country happy, according to the statement.
According to the statement, Dr. Arinde praised the governor’s support for the student community. He said the bursary allowances are being distributed to Kwara students who registered on the government-created webpage.
According to the statement, many bursary applicants did not make the list due to a variety of irregularities, including missing some columns during registration, entering an invalid matriculation number, an invalid bank verification number (BVN), or providing inappropriate or dubious details/information, among others.
