NSCDC creates female strike unit to guard schools in FCT
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has established a female strike force tasked with defending schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The FCT NSCDC Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, revealed this in a statement made on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, Samuel Idoko.
According to the statement, the effort, which intended to improve the safety of educational institutions, included a three-day training programme to prepare people with the essential skills and capacities.
Odumosu emphasised the necessity of training in safeguarding the safety of students and staff.
He emphasised the importance of regular patrols, surveillance, and security awareness programmes to prevent threats and attacks on schools.
Odumosu also asked schools in the FCT to register with the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre, or NSSRCC, for improved coordination and faster responses to security threats.
“We must make schools safe havens once again for children,” he went on to say.
Ahmed Audi, the General Commandant of the NSCDC, emphasised the need of training in accordance with the instruction to secure schools.
He stressed the importance of putting an end to abductions in schools and restoring the public’s confidence in the NSCDC’s ability to protect educational institutions in the FCT.
“The training is imperative to ensure compliance with the CG’s directive on the mandate of securing schools for the safety of students and staff.
“Cases of abduction in schools must come to an end. That is the primary purpose of this training.
“We need to restore the confidence of the people in our ability to secure schools in the FCT,” Audi stated.
