UNICAL 36th Convocation: Kukah tasks graduands on hard work for prosperity

THE (Sundiata Post) – Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has urged graduating students of the University of Calabar to embrace hard work in order to earn a prosperous future.
Kukah gave the advice on Friday in Calabar while delivering the 36th convocation lecture on the university titled: ”Harmonising Diversity for National Development”
Kukah said that hard word and determination remained veritable tools for success in life.
”As you leave the university, we expect that you should get involved in making Nigeria better.
”There is no substitute to hard work and determination, you need them as you grow in life,” he said.
The clergy urged youths to take steps towards harmonising the diversity of the nation in the interest of national development.
”As citizens of this nation, we have to learn the art of managing our diversities, this will enable us to develop faster.
”We should muster the sensitivity to identify the qualities in other people and make the most of them,” he said.
Kukah said that the political class should use their privileged positions to promote the welfare of the people.
”Avoid using the opportunity of your position to only privilege your own people. Else, you put them into a line of hostility as others will begin to hate them directly or indirectly,” he said.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, thanked the guest lecturer for honouring the university’s invitation.
She said that the university would continue to promote academic excellence under her watch.(NAN)
