Police detains Nasarawa State University student for raping colleague




The police have confirmed the arrest of a 400-level student from Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), for reportedly raping a 100-level student from the same institution.

DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest to journalists in Keffi on Friday.

Mr Nansel stated that the suspect was apprehended by police officers assigned to the Agwan Lambu Division, close to the institution, on May 9 for allegedly performing the act.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect travelled to the village where he and the victim come from.

“The victim’s parents gave the suspect some foodstuffs to give to the victim since they are both attending the same university.

“When he brought the food items, he called the victim to come to his residence to collect them, and on her arrival, the suspect lured her into his room and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her,” he said.

Mr Nansel said that after his arrest, the suspect was taken to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), where he had confessed to committing the crime.

He said the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
