Enugu Smart Green Schools, fully operational September, 2025- Mbah

ENUGU ( Sundiata Post) – The Enugu State Government says the newly introduced Smart Green School (SGS) projects will be fully operational in September 2025 across the 260 political wards of the stateThe Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah made the disclosure in a media chat with the on Tuesday in Enugu.

The commissioner said that a pilot study of the smart school was done in Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state with 840 pupils and junior secondary school students already enrolled in the school.Mbah said that with the commencement of the pilot school, the SGS would be replicated in all the 260 wards of the 17 LGAs in the state.According to him,

the smart green school is a 100 year and N1 billion investment project with each school consisting of 25 inclusive classrooms, internet facilities, solar power system, medical facilities and quarters for 40 teachers and other personnel.“

There will also be a smart farm in the school so that children will understand that agriculture is critical to sustainable development. In fact, agriculture is a pillar of the smart green school.“The smart farm is critical because it is a part of experiential learning,

we want our children to understand where the food that ends up in their plates comes from and we want to change the psyche of Enugu citizens when it comes to agriculture,” he said,”

he said.“Smart School is a revolution because government has a ground support from the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) and other donor agencies.“

It will redesign education development in Enugu State with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and mechatronics.“

By September, 2025, about 135 smart schools will take off“Each smart green school is a N1bn investment in the world if fully equipped and functional,

it includes 25 inclusive smart classrooms fully equipped and furnished.The commissioner said that the state government was building a centre at the Enugu College of Education,

Technical, to train and produce smart teachers not only for the state but also for export to other states and parts of the world.“We have a creativity hub where they use coding and robotics to generate modules for industries;

we have a mechatronics hub where they learn both traditional and emergent technologies and all of these are provision in the pilot Enugu Smart School in Owoh,” he explained.

The commissioner however, disclosed that Vice President Kashim Shettima would inaugurate the pilot smart school in Owo on June 4.(NAN)
