2, 000 matriculate as diploma students as LASU charges on excellence

LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – Prof. Ibrahim Bakare, Director, Lagos State University Consult Ltd., has charged newly-admitted diploma students of the university to determine to have a brighter future.

Bakare, a Professor of Development and Economic Studies, gave the charge at a ceremony to swear in diploma students for the 2023/2024 academic session, on Tuesday in Lagos.

reports that no fewer than 2,000 students were sworn-in at the ceremony.

Bakare urged the students to be diligent and strive for excellence.

“The increase in the number of applicants for diploma programmes can be attributed to several crucial success factors including rebranding, low tuition fees, the ivory tower’s rising international rating, among others.

“I took over 18 programmes when I assumed office on April 26, 2022.

“Following a thorough assessment of these programmes, I discovered that some of the courses previously approved by the university’s senate were no longer offered, which prevented our internal diploma programmes from running at their full potential.

“Thanks to the strategic efforts of the affected departments and our valuable partners, because the number of certificates and diplomas has increased to 85 cash-cow courses,” Bakare said.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, advised the students to be committed to their studies to be able to come out with high grades.

According to her, that will widen their chances to transit into full-time direct entry undergraduate programmes.

Olatunji-Bello, represented by Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), said that the university did not allow part-time students to form or belong to any students association.

“As young men and women desirous of a brighter future, it is expected that you abide by the rules and regulations of the university and be committed to your studies.

“It is important for me to mention that LASU is a student-centered university. It is a place for grooming of generational leaders.

“I enjoin you to strive for academic excellence in all you do.

“It is my prayer that at the end of your programmes, we shall come together to celebrate your graduation,” she said. (NAN)(
