UNILAG expresses concern, begins investigation into poor living condition of student
Following a viral video on social media depicting the pitiful living conditions of a 300-level female Biology Education student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the institution’s administrators voiced worry for the student.
As a follow-up, management has contacted her and begun efforts to intervene and make life easier for the female student.
A reaction by Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, Head, Communication Unit on behalf of the University management read,” The University of Lagos Management is deeply disturbed by the alarming images and reports that have surfaced on social media (X formerly Twitter, Instagram and TikTok) depicting the deplorable home situation of a 300-level student of our University.
“We understand the widespread concern and outrage this has generated, and we want to assure the public that we have commenced investigations into the matter.
“Our Students’ Affairs Division and Faculty of Education management team have already established contact with the young lady, and are currently in talks with her.
“In line with our commitment to supporting our students’ welfare, we are poised to take swift and appropriate action based on our findings.
“The management of the institution appreciates all stakeholders of the institution and the general public for their concern and support.
“We will keep members of the public informed of our findings and progress on the issue,” UNILAG added.
According to sources, the concerned student lived near the dumpsite of Ilaje, a riverine community in the Bariga Local Council Development Area.
