JAMB uncovers 3,000 fake graduates with illegal certificates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has discovered 3,000 NigerianĀ fakeĀ graduates.

Prof Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar, made the announcement during a meeting with a delegation from the Committee of Pro Chancellors of State Universities in Nigeria, COPSUN, in Abuja.

In the meeting’s details, which was published in the board’s bulletin, Oloyede also condemned the illegal admissions procedure in various universities across the country.

ā€œSome ā€˜graduatesā€™ had never entered the four walls of a university owing to the endemic corruption in the system but the board had documented over 3,000 of such cases.

ā€œIllegal admission of candidates into tertiary institutions is an embarrassment and a disservice to the nation,ā€ he said.

Earlier, the examination body urged candidates not to accept admissions without complete academic participation.

Recall that in December 2023, the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education directed JAMB to produce a list of tertiary institutions that have performed illegal admissions.
