Osun orders closure of primary, secondary schools ahead of hunger protest
The Osun State Government has directed that primary and secondary schools in the state go on third-term vacation effective from Wednesday.
The administration stated that the decision impacts the state’s public and private institutions.
The authorities went on to explain that the decision to close the schools was in response to the planned nationwide hunger protest on August 1.
A Public Service Announcement signed by Mr A. Jimoh, Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Education, and acquired in Osogbo on Monday advised parents and guardians to guarantee their children’s safety throughout the vacation.
The PSA partly read, “This is to inform the general public, particularly parents, guardians and heads of both public and private schools in the state that due to the planned nationwide protests, all schools are directed to proceed on the third term vacation From Wednesday 31st July, 2023.
“Parents and Guardians are advised to ensure the safety of their wards during the vacation.”
Earlier on Monday, Ademola Adeleke, the state governor, met with representatives of civil society organisations and student organisations to discuss concerns related to the scheduled hunger strike.
As of the time of filing this report, the outcome of the meeting is still unknown.
