ILE IFE (Sundiata Scholar) – (Osun), Sept. 13, 2024 (NAN) Mr Olumide Awosunle, the Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Horlly Investment Limited, on Friday distributed notebooks worth N1.2 million to the children of widows in Ile-Ife, Osun.
Awosunle distributed the notebooks to the widows’ children at Ife City Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife, to support their education.
“The motive behind this is to serve humanity, and to touch lives which I’ve been doing for long.
“I want to be known not for how many houses built, or number of cars possessed, but the number of lives impacted matters most.
“Chief Obafemi Awolowo remain memorable today, not because of the money he had, but for the number of lives he impacted.
“If your living is not touching lives, then you are not living rightly,” he stated.
According to him, the reason for chosen the children of widows is due to lack of capacity for them to fund their children education.
“I cannot empower the rich, but can only empower the poor and I didn’t have enough resources that can go round, that’s why widows were selected,” he stated.
He said that distribution was not for political ambition “as some might think,” but for community service.
Speaking, Comrade Moses Olafare, the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, commended Awosunle for the gesture and his compassionate spirit.
Olafare noted that the purpose of the donation was to ensure people live meaningfully in life, “for when you have education, you live very impactful life.”
He urged the donor not to relent in empowering and assisting the people, and charged others to emulate him in impacting lives.
Olafare admonished the beneficiaries to see this as an encouragement to face their studies so as to be successful in life.
In the same vein, the Secretary, Ife Development Board, Mr Lawrence Omidiora, applauded the donor for contributing his quota to the progress and development of the people, especially at this period.
Omidiora, while acknowledging the role of government at providing quality education, charged them to do more especially now that students would resume for next academic session.
He counselled parents to properly monitor their children and provide necessary educational materials for them, advising children to take their studies seriously for brighter future.
Atobalo Teniola, one of the beneficiaries, appreciated Awosunle for relieving them with notebooks, adding that she had been panicking on how to purchase writing materials for her children.
