Flying Officer David Sangokoya of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been awarded the International Cadet Sword of Honour by the Royal Air Force College Cranwell in the United Kingdom.
He got the award for outstanding performance as the top international student and overall best performer in the Leadership and Training Course for the academic year 2023-2024.
Flying Officer Sangokoya became the first African cadet to receive this coveted honour since the Academy’s inception more than a century ago.
Speaking during the commendation event in honour of Flying Officer at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, October 7, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, described the achievement was “truly ground-breaking.”
He said: “This feat underscores the excellence that exists within the Nigerian Air Force, proving that our officers and cadets can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the world.”
Air Marshal Abubakar stated that the Flying Officer has set a new benchmark not only for his colleagues but for all future cadets and officers.
According to him, the officer’s success is a “powerful” reminder that with dedication, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, no goal is impossible to achieve.
“Your journey as an officer has begun with this prestigious accolade, but the true measure of your success will be seen in how you serve, lead, and contribute to the mission of the Nigerian Air Force and the defence of our great nation,” claimed the NAF boss.
Air Marshal Abubakar praised the UK government for its “unwavering support in providing world-class training opportunities to our personnel.”
He said the support has helped NAF officers and men to gain invaluable skills and knowledge, “strengthening not only our bilateral ties but also our collective ability to address global security challenges.”
