We’re committed to improving quality of academic journals – UNILAG VC




LAGOS (Sundiata Scholar) – The Vice- Chancellor of University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Folashade Ogunshola, has re-iterated the institution’s commitment to improving the quality of academic journals.

She spoke on the sidelines of a one-day training for editors of journals in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

reports that the training was held at the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre, UNILAG, on Monday.

It was organised by the Academic Publishing Centre (TETFUND South-West), UNILAG, in partnership with Elsevier Publishing House, the Netherlands, which is a global leader in academic journal publishing.

Ogunshola said there was need for continuous improvement in the quality of local academic journals to make them globally acceptable.

She said that the training was aimed at deepening knowledge of academic journals editors.

“We set out about three years ago that we wanted to raise the bar to be global.

“The world is changing; so, it is about improving and increasing standards. It is a continuous process.

“We have started the journey. If we are going to break some of the barriers, we have to be excellent,” she said.

“I want the editors to begin to see the bigger picture, to tighten the gateway and realise that we are part of a global picture; so, we need to improve our skills,” she said. (NAN)
