LOKOJA ( Sundiata Scholar) – Five persons on Saturday bagged Honorary Doctorate Degree Awards at the 8th Convocation Ceremony of Federal University, Lokoja.
reports that the awardees include Dr Gladys Adesuwa-Makoju, an educationist, who was honoured with a Degree of Doctor of Science, Most Rev. John Onaiyekan, who got an Honorary Degree of Doctor of (D.Litt.)
Others are Alhaji Ibrahim Idris; Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt), Dr. Mujidat Tinubu-OJo, Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) and Alhaji Saleh Ahmadu, Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.).
Shortly before Makoju was decorated, her husband’s foundation, Joseph Makoju Foundation (JOM), announced various awards to students who performed excellently in the fields of STEM and Inovativeness in the university.
Her son, Mr Enesi Makoju, Managing Director/CEO, JOM Foundation, said that the award tagged: “Joseph Oyeyani Makoju Award of Excellence”, had been endorsed by the foundation’s Board of Trustees.
The awards included Overall Best Female Graduating Student in STEM and Inovativeness (N200,000), Overall Best Female Graduating Student in Engineering/Technology and Innovation (Undergraduate) (N150,000), and
Overall Best Male Graduating Student in Engineering and Technology (150,000).
Makoju also announced a
Grant for Doctorial Research of (N100,000,000) per annum for three years and other expenses up to the tune of N500,000 annually, that would be considered as the need arises.
“These awards will serve as incentives for students to excel not only in these fields but also toward the attainment of the most desired gender equity, particularly in STEM and Inovativeness.
“We look forward to preserving this award at the next convocation.
“We once again pledge our commitment to ensuring the sustainability of these awards in these fields as long as it makes the desired impact,” Makoju said.
On the Endowed Prizes and Scholarships, Miss Beauty Ene-Ojo emerged the overall best graduating student of the 2022/2023 session to clinch the Vice Chancellor’s Prize with a 4.92 CGPA (B.Sc. Economics).
Ene-Ojo also clinched the Vice Chancellor’s Prize for the Best Graduating female student and the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Economics.
The Babajide Kolade-Otitoju of Journalists Hangout (TVC) Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Mass Communication went to Khadija Blessing-Mohammed who had a CGPA of 4.27.
Prof. Sam Egwu prize for the best graduating student in Political Science went to Joshua Obamina-Christopher CGPA 4.73, while Prof. Olu-Obafemi prize for the best graduating student in English and Literary Studies went to Peter Oluwale-Oyelabi CGPA 4.25 (NAN)
