Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved the appointment of Professor Ndukwe Okeudo as the new Vice Chancellor of Abia State University (ABSU), along with a fresh management team and Governing Council for the institution. The appointments follow the approval, release, and publication of the White Paper report by the full visitation panel of ABSU, Uturu.
During a press briefing in Umuahia on the recent State Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Otti, Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu announced several key appointments. Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu has been named Pro-Chancellor, Mrs. Catherine Uju Ifejika as Chancellor, and Dr. Onwubiko Dike as a member of the Governing Council. The new team also includes two Deputy Vice Chancellors, four members of the Senate, two members of the university’s congregation, a convocation representative, a delegate from the State Ministry of Tertiary Education, and a new Bursar.
These appointments are scheduled to take effect starting November 1, 2024.
The Commissioner stated, “You are aware that the visitation panel was put in place with a view to understanding the problems the university faces and coming up with solutions.
“The first in a series of reforms that will take place there has commenced with these appointments and certain key positions being filled,” Prince Kanu stated.
