The Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) received only one month’s salary out of the four months withheld during previous industrial actions, contrary to the Federal Government’s announcement that all outstanding salaries had been settled.
Falowo Olushola, Chairman of SSANU’s University of Ilorin branch, revealed on Saturday that members received payment notifications starting Friday, showing only one month’s salary credited.
This falls short of the 50 percent payout previously promised by the government, which union members understood to mean two months’ worth of withheld salaries.
Olushola criticised the government’s handling of the presidential directive issued last year to release the withheld salaries.
He emphasised that the unions would continue their indefinite strike until their demands are fully met, unless the national headquarters directs otherwise.
The unions launched the strike last week to demand the complete release of the four months of withheld salaries, citing the government’s failure to uphold its commitment.
