The Kogi State Government has approved ₦8 billion for infrastructure development at the newly established Kogi State University, Kabba (KOSUK).
According to the state’s Commissioner for Education, Mr. Wemi Jones, the approval was granted by Governor Ahmed Ododo and will fund the construction of key facilities, including the Senate building, the Faculty of Science, and male and female hostels.
Contractors have already been mobilised to the sites, with construction expected to begin within two weeks.
Speaking on the state government’s commitment to advancing education, Jones remarked, “Kogi State Government has been servicing education very monumentally, and the present administration of Gov. Ahmed Ododo is resolved to maintain and surpass the budgetary allocation of 30% to education.”
He emphasised that Governor Ododo remains dedicated to prioritising education as a tool for development, following his tenure in former Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration.
In addition to infrastructure projects, Governor Ododo has approved ₦316 million in bursaries for 8,750 Kogi indigene students in tertiary institutions.
201 law students will receive ₦300,000 of these, while other beneficiaries will be awarded ₦30,000 each. These students were selected from over 40,000 applicants who completed the verification process.
The state government has also allocated over ₦600 million to cover WAEC fees for 18,734 public school students, demonstrating its commitment to reducing financial barriers to education.
This follows similar initiatives under the previous administration, including the disbursement of ₦115 million for JAMB registration fees for 15,033 students and ₦497 million for WAEC fees in 2023.
These efforts reflect Kogi State’s continued investment in education through substantial funding and policy initiatives aimed at improving access and ensuring quality learning for all students.
