A fire outbreak at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has destroyed property valued at millions of naira.
The incident, which occurred early Saturday morning, affected the hospital’s Emergency and Accident Unit.
Reports indicate that the fire, which originated around 5 a.m. in a paediatrics consultant’s office due to an electrical spark, damaged various items, including office equipment, books, engines, electronic gadgets, as well as the roof and ceiling of the building.
A source from the hospital disclosed that 16 patients had to be swiftly evacuated from the affected ward to ensure their safety.
Confirming the incident, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Omotayo Ogunleye, described it as a “minor incident” and assured the public that normal operations had resumed.
He stated, “Yes, it is true. It is a minor incident. But normal activities have resumed in the hospital.”
