Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, has celebrated Professor Vadlya T. Tame as the first specialist in Post-Harvest Physiology and Storage Technology in northern Nigeria.
The institution’s registrar, Mallam Usman Mustphar Maigawa, highlighted the significance of this achievement, attributing it to the Department of Crop and Horticulture Production. He stated that the development would promote sustainability and enhance the economic potential of farmers, the state, and the nation.
Mallam Maigawa remarked that MAU has demonstrated its capability to produce world-class professionals who can contribute to economic growth across various sectors.
He congratulated Professor Vadlya Tame, the Head of the Department of Crop Production, for elevating the institution’s reputation globally. He encouraged the newly promoted professor to continue breaking new ground and mentoring students in this specialised field.
Professor Vadlya T. Tame described the achievement as a collective success for the university community and society.
“This is not just me but for the entire university community and society,” he stated.
He emphasised the importance of reducing the post-harvest losses experienced by farmers.
“You will agree with me that we lose a lot as a result of a lack of post-harvest storage technology. With what we have now, we hope to build on it to improve the storage of our farm produce, which will also help in improving our economy,” he added.
Professor Tame, who earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from the Federal University of Technology, Yola (now Modibbo Adama University), expressed gratitude to his alma mater for the opportunities provided and the support for research that culminated in this milestone.
He pledged to support students interested in pursuing careers in crop management and urged academic institutions to foster research to help students explore new areas of study.
