AAUA to Produce 62 First-Class Graduates at 13th Convocation
The Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Professor Olugbenga Ige, announced on Monday that a total of 6,837 students will graduate at the university’s 13th Convocation ceremony, set to take place on Friday, 13th, and Saturday, 14th December 2024.
Of the graduating students, 62 achieved First Class Honours, 1,941 earned Second Class Honours (Upper Division), 3,486 attained Second Class Honours (Lower Division), 684 graduated with Third Class Honours, and 8 fall into the Pass category.
The graduands also include 657 postgraduate students, among whom 46 have been awarded PhD degrees, highlighting the institution’s commitment to academic excellence.
Speaking during a press briefing in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Professor Ige revealed that three notable Nigerians who have significantly contributed to societal and institutional development would receive honorary degrees.
The awardees include the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, who will receive a Doctor of Public Administration, Honoris Causa; Hon. Adegboyega Adeyemi Adefarati, the lawmaker representing Akoko South West/East at the National Assembly, who will be conferred with a Doctor of Political Science, Honoris Causa; and Mr. Hazmat Ayodele Subair, who will be awarded a Doctor of Business Administration, Honoris Causa.
In addition to the convocation ceremony, the university will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a variety of events blending intellectual, cultural, and athletic activities. These include religious services, drama performances, research exhibitions, athletic competitions, and a friendly football match.
Professor Ige elaborated: “Other activities for the 13th Convocation Ceremony include innovative research exhibitions and a friendly football match. The anniversary lecture will be delivered on Wednesday by Dr. Kayode Ajulo, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State. The AAUA at 25 Awards Ceremony will be held the same day.
“The 25th Anniversary Inter-University Debate, Graduands’ Cocktail, and the Convocation Lecture, to be presented by Prof. Dipo Kolawole, former Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, will take place on Thursday.
“Friday will be dedicated to the conferment of first degrees on graduating students of the Faculties of Administration and Management Science, Education, Social Sciences, the Institute of Education, and the Institute of Part-Time Programmes, as well as the presentation of prizes.
“Saturday will be for the conferment of first degrees on graduating students of the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts, Law, Science, the award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Higher Degrees, honorary degrees, and the presentation of prizes.”
The Vice-Chancellor also announced that more academic programmes had been accredited by the National Universities Commission, including Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Cyber Security, Data Science, and Software Engineering. Additionally, the Faculty of Agriculture has introduced Food Science and Technology.
Professor Ige emphasised the institution’s steadfast commitment to maintaining the integrity of its academic programmes, aligned with the vision of its founding fathers 25 years ago.
He stated, “To ensure sustainable academic excellence, the university established five core pillars: promoting cutting-edge research, implementing merit-driven admission processes, appointing staff based on merit, and supporting young academics in pursuing advanced degrees at renowned institutions, both locally and internationally.”
