Truck Accident Claims Lives of 2 Female Students in Lokoja

Two female students tragically lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The accident occurred on Friday morning at approximately 10 am. It involved Miss Covenant Omolola Isaac, a student of Federal University Lokoja, and Miss Abu Taiwo Abimbola, a student of Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja from the Department of Science Laboratory and Technology.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that a heavily loaded articulated truck, en route to the Abuja axis along Felele in Lokoja, lost control and collided with a tricycle, commonly referred to as Keke, which was carrying passengers heading to the town.

Other passengers in the tricycle sustained severe injuries.

An identification card belonging to Covenant Omolola Isaac, a student of the Department of Geology at Federal University Lokoja, was recovered at the scene of the accident.

Sources confirmed that the remains of the two students were taken to the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja by officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

When contacted, the Kogi State Sector Commander of FRSC, Samuel Oyedeji, stated that his office had not yet received detailed information about the incident. He assured that further details would be provided, but none were available at the time of this report.

Meanwhile, the President of the National Association of Science Laboratory and Technology Students, Kogi State Polytechnic chapter, Comrade Akor Caleb Kelvin, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their member.

In a heartfelt statement, he said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our cherished member, [Abu Taiwo Abimbola, 2023/HSLT/MCB/087], who tragically lost her life earlier today in a road accident along Felele Road, Lokoja. This devastating loss has left all of us in shock and deep sorrow.

“Abimbola was more than just a member of our association; she was a beacon of hope and inspiration to everyone around her. Her kindness, dedication, and passion for education made her an exceptional part of our community, leaving behind a legacy of love and excellence.

“As we mourn this heartbreaking loss, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and loved ones. We pray for strength and comfort for them during this incredibly difficult time.

“In honour of her memory, the association will be organising a tribute and memorial service to celebrate her remarkable life. Details of the event will be shared in due course, and we encourage everyone to join us in paying our final respects.

“Taiwo Abimbola will forever remain in our hearts. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in perfect peace. Amen.”
