Ogun Education Ministry Becomes Certiport Authorised Training Centre—Commissioner

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has announced that the ministry is now a recognised Certiport Certificate Centre, offering workforce testing and certification for digital literacy skills.

Prof. Arigbabu made this revelation in Abeokuta during the presentation of Microsoft Certificate Education to Master Trainers in Digital Literacy. The training was organised by the Ministry of Education, making Ogun State the first to serve as a general awarding body in this regard.

According to a statement by Mr. Ayoola Obadimu, Press Officer for the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Arigbabu emphasised that teaching now extends beyond subject mastery to include the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning. This, he said, would enhance efficiency and adapt the education sector to modern technological standards.

He revealed that 120 assessors had already been trained, with plans to train 60 internal and 30 external verifiers, ensuring that teachers become technologically proficient and embrace digital literacy. Prof. Arigbabu added, “A time will come when anyone who cannot use technology will be classified as illiterate.”

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, noted that the event was organised in collaboration with the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) as part of broader efforts to establish the Ministry as an awarding institution.

In her remarks, the Certiport Nigeria Representative, Mrs. Edna Augusto, commended Ogun State’s commitment to international certification. She remarked that, since becoming a Certiport Official in 2009, she had not seen any state embrace international certification like Ogun State. She highlighted that the certificate allows recipients to work globally.

Two participants, Mr. Samuel Kinosi and Mrs. Adepeju Adesina, expressed their appreciation to the government for providing them with the opportunity to acquire such a valuable certification, which equips them to work anywhere in the world.
