Oyo to Issue Appointment Letters to 5,600 Newly Hired Teachers
The Oyo State Government announced on Friday that the distribution of appointment letters to 5,600 newly hired basic school teachers in the state will commence on Monday, January 6, 2025.
This distribution will occur at the Universal Basic Education office in each local government area across the state.
The Chairman of the state’s Universal Basic Education Board, Nureni Adeniran, made this announcement during a meeting with Education Secretaries in Ibadan, the state capital.
He urged the new teachers to be creative and adopt modern methods and techniques in their teaching.
Adeniran, who reiterated the board’s strict stance on examination malpractice, mentioned that the new teachers’ appointments will officially start on January 1, 2025.
However, he noted that while approximately 12 local governments are overstaffed with teachers, other areas face shortages. He assured that a redistribution would be implemented to ensure fairness and balance.
“As young teachers, you are expected to be creative, adaptive, talented, and progressive. We urge you to be innovative; I therefore urge you to be the teacher for this age and the game-changing teacher for the future.”
“You will be expected to be part of our dream of revolutionising the basic education sub-sector.”
“This is yet another testimony in our quest to reposition basic education in Oyo State in line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s campaign promises to our people, especially in the rural areas, many of which have a shortage of teachers as a result of retirements and other issues.”
“The first batch of 5,600 newly recruited teachers out of 7,000 who were successful after the rigorous recruitment processes will receive their letters from Monday,” he added.
Adeniran also mentioned that teachers categorized as People With Disabilities and applicants for the carer positions should go to the Board headquarters in Agodi to collect their appointment letters.
He further revealed that the Seyi Makinde administration has allocated N2.5 billion as a counterpart fund for the 2022 & 2023 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects, ensuring that basic and junior secondary schools continue to benefit from uninterrupted infrastructural development.
While congratulating the newly appointed teachers, the chairman encouraged them to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, emphasizing the importance of adhering to their professional code of ethics.
Adeniran praised Makinde for approving the appointments to fill vacant positions in the education sector, noting that his efforts in the field have positioned Oyo as a leader among its peers.
