Buhari Expresses Grief Over the Death of Prof Nuhu Yaqub
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his sorrow over the death of Prof Nuhu Yaqub, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja.
Prof Yaqub, who also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State University, passed away at the age of 74 on Saturday.
In a statement released on Saturday by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s spokesperson, the former president referred to the late professor as a “towering intellectual giant.”
“Former President Muhammadu Buhari joins family, friends, and the nation in mourning the death of a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Nuhu Omeiza Yaqub, OFR, describing him as a towering intellectual giant,” the statement said.
In his tribute to the Professor of Political Science, who also served as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State University, Buhari emphasized that Prof Yaqub had made an enduring contribution to the nation’s intellectual domain through his teaching and research.
The former president mentioned that he had known Yaqub for many years as a prominent scholar whose expertise, dedication, and perspectives on public policy were highly regarded by serious administrators.
He further stated that the deceased was a “scholar par excellence” and prayed that Allah grant him Aljannah.
