NANS Urges Southern Students to Apply for Student Loan Scheme
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged students in southern Nigeria to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to alleviate financial challenges in their educational pursuits.
This appeal was made in a statement issued on Monday by Abdul-Yekinn Odunayo, the Clerk of the Senate at NANS National headquarters, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Odunayo expressed concern over the low number of applications from students in the southern region for the student loan, emphasizing that the scheme was introduced by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support Nigerian students in achieving sustainable higher education and skill development.
He noted that students from the northern region were benefiting more from the loan, urging southern students to follow their example, warning that failing to do so would be detrimental to their own future.
Odunayo praised NELFUND for ensuring that the loan application process was not complicated, and commended President Tinubu’s administration for creating the scheme.
He mentioned in the statement that the loan initiative had already helped many underprivileged Nigerian students fulfill their academic dreams, and called on NELFUND to maintain transparency and integrity in its operations.
Odunayo also encouraged the agency to engage in more promotional efforts to raise awareness about the loan, particularly targeting students in the southern region.
