Ogun Revamps 8 Technical Colleges, Introduces Cutting-Edge Equipment
To improve its Technical Education Sector, Ogun State, under the World Bank-supported Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), has initiated the rehabilitation of all 8 Technical Colleges to align with global standards.
The State Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Dapo Okubadejo, alongside his Agriculture counterpart, Bolu Owotomo, shared this development during a site visit to the Government Science and Technical College in Ijebu Ode.
Okubadejo, who also serves as the Chairman of the OGSTEP Project Steering Committee, explained that the project aims to standardize technical and vocational education, equipping students with skills relevant to the industry through advanced machinery and tools.
He added that the government is focused on continually improving both the state’s physical infrastructure and human capital across various educational sectors by introducing state-of-the-art equipment, smart classrooms, and striving to ensure students can compete globally while also providing a skilled workforce to meet the state’s industrial demands.
The Commissioner stated that the rehabilitation inspection will proceed across the remaining seven technical colleges, emphasizing that OGSTEP’s efforts go beyond education and extend to supporting sectors like agriculture and business-enabling environments, praising the quality and speed of the ongoing rehabilitation work.
In response, the OGSTEP Project Coordinator, Mrs. Mosun Owo Odusi, highlighted the state government’s commitment to upskilling teachers and fostering partnerships with local industries to ensure that both students and teachers gain practical experience.
She further mentioned that the upgraded facilities would not only benefit students but would also provide a platform for industries to train and enhance their workforce.
