FG to Take Action Against Miracle Centres – Education Minister
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has stated that President Bola Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Education to introduce innovative strategies to enhance the global ranking of Nigerian universities.
He explained that this directive was a key reason behind his appointment as the substantive Minister of Education following the President’s cabinet reshuffle.
Alausa disclosed that five universities have been selected for a specialised form of training, which will subsequently be extended to other institutions nationwide.
In addition to this initiative, the minister stated that the Tinubu administration is dedicated to reforming Nigeria’s education sector by putting an end to the spread of “miracle centres.”
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Alausa emphasized that the Nigerian government is taking a strong stance to eliminate fraudulent practices that enable students to cheat during national examinations.
He accused some private secondary schools of deliberately attracting students by falsely assuring them of exam success, irrespective of their academic capabilities.
He stated: “These so-called miracle centres are constituting a major challenge, as they encourage widespread examination malpractice.”
Alausa further explained that examination malpractice is a significant issue, and the government is addressing it head-on.
He noted that allowing students to cheat creates an unfair environment, as it discourages those who put in the effort to study and work hard.
The minister also highlighted that Nigeria’s higher education system is improving due to a well-structured plan designed to enhance university education.
He asserted: “We will tackle this issue of miracle centres, this pervasive exam cheating decisively. We would bring a complete end to this menace that has really invaded our educational system.”
