Ondo police detain 3 individuals over alleged assault on NANS members

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged assault on some members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
The suspects, all youths, reportedly carried out the attack on February 23, 2025, in Ogbese, located in Akure North Local Council Area of the state.
CSP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the students were assaulted while en route to Abuja for the recently concluded NANS convention.
The PPRO explained that the police received an emergency call regarding the attack, prompting the launch of a search operation, which led to the apprehension of the three suspects.
She added: “On Sunday, 23rd February 2025, the command received a distress call from one of the NANS members, reporting an unprovoked attack by some youths in the Ogbese area. The police swiftly moved to the scene, restored calm, and ensured the safety of the victims.”
“Following the incident, a manhunt was immediately launched to apprehend the masterminds behind the attack. Intelligence gathered revealed that this was not the first time NANS members had been targeted in the same community. Through intelligence-led policing, the Special Squad of the command successfully arrested three suspects linked to the incident.”
The NANS team, led by the South-West Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Owolewa Taiwo, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, for the prompt response and the police’s continuous efforts in maintaining security throughout the state.
He also promised NANS’ support in working alongside the police to combat crime and ensure public safety in Ondo State.
“CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, reassured NANS members of a thorough investigation to uncover the full details behind the attack and to bring all those involved to justice. He reaffirmed the commitment of the command to ensuring the safety of all residents and travelers passing through the state.”
The three suspects are currently under interrogation and will be taken to court once the investigation is completed. The Ondo State Police Command has urged the public to remain law-abiding and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
