WAEC Revokes Licences of 574 Schools as 1.9m Prepare for Maiden CB-WASSCE

WAEC has withdrawn the licences of 574 schools across Nigeria for their involvement in examination malpractice.

At a pre-exam briefing on Thursday, Dr. Josiah Dangut, Head of the Nigeria National Office, said other exam bodies will also penalise offending centres.

“574 schools are those ones that have got their licences revoked as far as examination centre is concerned. So, we will not conduct examinations there. We don’t know them as far as the conduct of the examination is concerned.”

“All centres that have been found culpable in examination malpractice and have been sanctioned by a particular examining body, that sanction will be upheld by other examination bodies. So, if a school is reported for malpractice and is still recognized, the information will be shared with other examination bodies,” he added.

He revealed that 1.9 million candidates from 23,554 schools will take part in the first Computer-Based WASSCE, which will cover 74 subjects between April 24 and June 20.

“A total of 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools have presented candidates for the examination,” he said.

The candidate count rose by 158,627 this year, and NIN was made part of registration in line with federal directives.

Results will be released 45 days after the exam ends, and certificates issued within 90 days.

He also noted that no two candidates will get identical questions on each number, a move aimed at curbing malpractice.
